The West Virginia Trucking Association (“WVTA”) has announced that the exclusive WVTA Buyers’ Guide (the “Guide”) — the premier resource of relevant products and services for trucking professionals — is now available at the WVTA website at www.wvtrucking.com.

WVTA partnered with Overland Park, Kan.-based Strategic Value Media, a leading nationwide provider of print and digital media solutions for national, state and local trade and membership associations, to produce the Guide. WVTA is proud to provide its members with this useful and easily accessible year-round resource.

“This comprehensive Guide offers access to a vast network of industry suppliers,” said Jan Vineyard, President of WVTA. “We are very pleased with the ne work SVM has done with this Guide, which we anticipate will now greatly assist industry professionals in making educated purchasing decisions throughout the year. The response to this Guide by the industry has been nothing short of outstanding.”

The West Virginia Trucking Association, in conjunction with the  American Trucking Associations’ Share the Road highway safety program, released winter driving tips for motorists taking to the nation’s highways this holiday season.

“Everyone is busy this holiday season running last minute errands for our family celebrations or driving to faraway states to visit grandparents or friends, but the trucking industry wants all motorists to make safety their number one priority,” said West Virginia Trucking Association President, Jan Vineyard. “It’s easy to get caught up in the holiday spirit and forget to focus on safety, which is why we’re happy to provide these tips from professional truck drivers.”

More than 103 million Americans are expected to travel this holiday season, according to AAA. A higher volume of vehicles traveling side by side on roads in December and early January creates an increased need for adherence to safe-driving habits, especially when coupled with adverse driving conditions. Drivers should be well-aware of the uptick in congestion and plan trips accordingly.

Today, American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear issued the following statement about the inclusion of a permanent hours-of-service restart fix in Congress' bipartisan Continuing Resolution:

"ATA thanks Congress for including what should be a permanent fix to the hours-of-service restart in this Continuing Resolution, and we look forward to its final passage into law to resolve this issue.  Reverting back to the pre-July 2013 restart shifts the emphasis back to safety by removing flawed data from the rulemaking process. The entire industry will now be able to comply with this rule thanks to a common sense approach championed by a bipartisan group of legislators.

"While ATA sought the same for preempting states that have added redundant rest break requirements on top of the existing federal standard, ATA will continue to push hard for federal preemption of specific state laws when the 115th Congress convenes next month."
